The Town of Mammoth Lakes has announced the terms of the settlement with MLLA and Terry Ballas. The details can be found on any of the areas news outlets and the Town’s website. As Mayor Matt Lehman was quoted weeks ago as saying, “Nobody is going to be happy with the settlement.” But the Town will not be moving forward in bankruptcy court and (most) everybody should be happy about that. The … [Read more...]
Broker’s Report.September 25––No On Bankruptcy! and The Election Chill
Mammoth Broker’s Report, March 7, 2012
Broker’s Report, March 7, 2012––My readers know I’m not ignoring all of the negative news coming out of Mammoth; from the low snowfall and all of the ramifications to the Town’s financial debacle to more harassment from LADWP over local water rights. But oddly, the Mammoth real estate market trudges along with activity. The interesting unknown in my mind; just how active would the market … [Read more...]
Broker’s Report, November 14––Buying In Front of The 1000″ Winter.

I had to change the date on this Broker’s Report, it was originally dated October 13. Yeah, it took me a month to finish it, and I had to re-write it, because plenty has happened in the last 30 days including considerable business. The “anticipation of winter” sales push started early in August, and then stalled, and then moved solidly back into motion the last 30 days. It almost looks like … [Read more...]
Broker’s Report, July 28 | Dog Days Low-Down
The dog days of summer have finally allowed me to write this long over due broker’s report. But it still took awhile. The Mammoth real estate market is trending in typical fashion for this time of year. And we are in that almost laughable period in which I annually refer back to. Or at least scratch my head over. There is a good volume of inventory and selection (the usual summer peak) to choose … [Read more...]
Mammoth Broker’s Report, March 21––A Tumultuous World and Frustrated Buyers
So this is what they call a “buyer’s market?” Am I the only one confused here or is the term buyer’s market a bit of a misnomer? Or are the unique nuances of the Mammoth real estate market just shining through? Yes, buyers are making good buys if we consider the steep decline in values over the past few years, and low interest rates, and other alternative investment/purchasing options, and … [Read more...]
Mammoth Real Estate Broker’s Report, January 14, 2011––The End of the Innocence
What would Mammoth be without tons of snow and all the associated chaos? What would Mammoth be without a big holiday crowd full of recreation diehards? (They had a great time from what I could tell.) And what would Mammoth be without one big controversy filled with uncertainty? Mammoth may not have an old western downtown like so many ski towns, but the Wild West is alive and well. The halt in … [Read more...]
Mammoth Real Estate Broker’s Report––November 4, The Mammoth “New Normal”
Mammoth’s real estate market, as well as many other aspects of life in Mammoth, has settled into a rather predictable local version of the “new normal.” Ongoing foreclosures, short sales, developer and investor/ment defaults, pie-in-the-sky planning proposals, restaurants coming and going, etc. have become almost like the change of seasons. There really are no surprises. The only surprise is … [Read more...]
Broker’s Report––I Don’t Send Christmas Cards.
Broker’s Report, August 14––The Mammoth real estate market continues to influenced by three factors: foreclosures, very low interest rates, and the “what to do with my cash” syndrome. While the present economic environment has clearly brought some to ruin or impending ruin, the other half is looking for opportunities to acquire, upgrade, or simply improve what they have. And most are … [Read more...]
Mammoth Broker’s Report, May 27, 2010 – I Hope It Doesn’t Snow In August.
Broker’s Report, May 27––Mammoth local residents are getting downright grumpy and perhaps deservedly so. Most are addicted to Vitamin D and endorphins and this spring has provided diminished opportunities for both. April and May have been marked by continued snow, a slowly receding snowpack (doesn’t help the early mountain biking) and tons of WIND, continued wind, and almost persistent … [Read more...]
Mammoth Broker’s Report, March 22, 2010 – Mammoth Spring Fever
Broker’s Report, March 22––In the past month a good number of things have excited my cynical side, some of it good enough for Saturday Night Live or The Daily Show, and I’ll get to that. But the snow and skiing have been so excellent and the Sierra and the surrounding vistas so full of white that being negative is a difficult thing to be. And the weather has been classic Mammoth––going … [Read more...]
