Dear friends and clients,
For years, this space has been a place of insight, honesty, and thoughtful perspective, a reflection of Paul Oster himself.
It is with deep sadness that I share that Paul passed away on December 21, 2025 in Orange County, California surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. Paul was the sole contributor to the Mammoth Real Estate Blog and the bi-weekly newsletters so many of you faithfully followed. He will be missed more than words can express.
Paul’s blog inspired deep trust and a loyal readership. You wanted to know how Paul looked at things. He had a way of cutting through the noise, offering perspective that was sharp, thoughtful, and unapologetically honest. He wasn’t afraid to call things as he saw them, and that authenticity is what made his voice so trusted and so widely read.
In his personal life, Paul was particular in the best way. He loved mind chess, valued his independence, and never married. He was thoughtful, disciplined, and deeply committed to the things and people he cared about.
I had the privilege of working alongside Paul beginning in 2004, helping to run RE/MAX of Mammoth. Together, we managed an office of over 20 real estate agents, reviewing files, overseeing marketing, handling our own sales, and managing Paul’s transactions during his legendary three-week fishing trips. In 2007, we formed the RE/MAX of Mammoth REO (Real Estate Owned) Department, representing corporate clients and successfully closing over 400 transactions.
In 2013, Paul purchased our current location at 587 Old Mammoth Road in Mammoth Lakes, CA. From that point forward, the brokerage became Paul Oster and myself, Deanna Lantieri, a partnership built on trust, shared work ethic, and deep respect.
In recent years, Paul and I often talked about working toward retirement. We are two self-proclaimed workaholics who genuinely loved what we did: helping clients achieve their real estate goals. Those conversations usually ended with a smile. We both knew we were kidding ourselves. We would work until the end.
And Paul did just that. In the final month of his life, he was still working, answering client texts and emails. Shortly before his passing, Paul asked me if I would continue running RE/MAX of Mammoth. My answer was easy. Yes.
I am pleased to report that RE/MAX of Mammoth will continue Paul’s legacy. Our location and contact information remain the same, and we are here to assist you with all of your real estate needs. We look forward to providing the same high level of service and will soon resume sharing local market statistics to keep you informed.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of Paul’s journey.
Sincerely,
Deanna Lantieri
P.S. You can also read an obituary for Paul in The Sheet.

Those of us who knew you, Paul, will miss you greatly. We appreciated your forthrightness and warmth. And our chats. They were great. It was such a pleasure to share ideas, which we shall always cherish.

While I did not know you, I followed your blog once I started looking for a place in Mammoth. You provided much insight and wisdom on your blog. RIP Paul.
I’m a part timer, but I always enjoyed Paul’s Resl Estate blog…for the last 30plus years . You could get a sense of the kind of good man Paul is by just reading that. I did and truly am sad he is no longer with us. Rest easy Paul. Your struggle here is over.
