1849 Condos Description

The 1849 Condos, or more commonly referred to as “1849”, is a 101-unit project known for its immediate location to Canyon Lodge. The original projects “theme” reflected the older gold rush and mining days of California and Mammoth. Built in 1972, the project is more recently known for a massive and beautiful renovation and modernization program including the management and lobby areas.

The project was built in two phases that are quite dissimilar. Phase One is closest to Canyon Lodge and features a more hotel-style building with lobby, under-structure parking, elevator, internal hallways and covered walkways. The Phase One units are “flats” or units all on one floor. Phase Two features free standing fourplex buildings with a mix of 2-bedroom, 2 + loft, and 4-bedroom condominiums on multiple levels and open parking.

In the center of the project is a common area including an indoor/outdoor pool, spas, and recreation room. Due to the project’s immediate access to Canyon Lodge and the adjacent ski lifts, it has a long history of popularity with the ski crowd, both owners and renters. With the recent renovation work completed, there is a significant resurgence in popularity.

The recent improvements include new windows, new siding, new roof, and a multitude of minor structural and aesthetic improvements (this was not cheap!). Basically the project looks new, and with one of the finest locations in Mammoth Lakes, it deserved it.

This undertaking is testament to a strong Association and Board of Directors. The project also owns a vacant lot across the street on Lakeview Blvd. for the sole purpose of snow storage. That is a valuable asset at this elevation. The project has resident on-site managers.
